Anti-homophobia banner presented to Altona 93

9th Jan 2015

Hamlet fans will no doubt be aware of the FARE network and DHST funded ‘Dulwich Hamlet and Altona 93 against homophobia’ banner, which is now permanently on display at the car wash end of Champion Hill. It is with thanks to the clubs football committee that the banner has a permanent home and the Trust look forward to ongoing collaboration in ensuring that the club is a welcoming place for all to enjoy. It is testament to our club that our supporters, owners, officials and Trust work together so proactively to demonstrate a strong stance on anti-discrimination. Indeed, we are delighted to be working with the committee to support the Dulwich Hamlet vs Stonewall FC friendly on 11 February and the free ticket initiative for LGBT fans for the home league game on 21 February.

In November, DHST Board members Jack Bagnall and Duncan Hart, along with Trust member Ben Sibley, visited Hamburg to present an identical banner to Altona 93. As you would hope and expect, our friends from Hamburg were delighted with the gift, which was proudly displayed that day at the away game against Buxtehude. Subsequently we also gave our German friends a batch of the button badges displaying the same image. Their supporters demonstrated typical generosity with £60 worth of donations made by their supporters in exchange for the badges. All funds raised will be donated to anti-homophobia campaigns. We’ve recently made a donation to Education Action Challenging Homophobia for the badges sold in the UK. If supporters are yet to get theirs then they are available from the Mega Shed on match days in exchange for a donation.

Below are a few pictures from the day.
