Dulwich Hamlet FC Calais Refugee Appeal: Donations are now in storage

13th Sep 2015

vol1

It has been a whirlwind week for the Dulwich Hamlet Supporters’ Trust. Last Thursday we put out an appeal to our fans and the local community to bring down items to donate to the Calais Refugee Camp.

We were overwhelmed by donations at both our home game against Billericay and the mid week match against Leatherhead, receiving so much we quickly ran out of storage room at the club.

On Wednesday an army of over 50 volunteers arrived at the club to sort, sift and lift donations.

Stage three kicked off yesterday and 20 volunteers turned up early on a Saturday morning to box the goods and get them transported to West Norwood. We filled two 75ft square storage rooms with tents, sleeping bags and clothing.

It was a massive undertaking with our supporters and the local community pulling out all of the stops to make it happen, and happen it did.

We would like to offer particular thanks to the following:

  • Big Yellow Storage who doubled the amount of space we could use for free.
  • Neil Cotty from Global Freight Solutions (GFS) who provided a large van which took two full loads to west Norwood.
  • Khalid, our friendly and hard working van driver provided by GFS.
  • All those that came down to help us over the last week.

We had completed the move by 1pm which allowed time for volunteers to get to Hampton and Richmond FA Cup game. We will be joining the South London convoy to Calais on the 15th October and you can still donate on our Go Fund Me page.

Once again, thank you for all of your help. We could not have done it without you!
