New DHST Secretary required

30th Mar 2016

After five years in the role, Mark Panton is standing down from the position of Trust Secretary this summer. DHST is therefore looking to appoint a new Secretary of the Trust. This is a vitally important role within the DHST, one which along with responsibility, will be a tremendous addition to any persons CV. In addition, the successful candidate will be helping to guide the Trust as it takes on the challenges of future fan ownership and a possible ground redevelopment.

Ideally the person would be able to take up the position from 1 June, prior to the Trust’s AGM on 4 July 2016. There would be a 5-week handover period from 1 June to 5 July with Mark. The position is voluntary and full details of the position are available here.

Every Community Benefit Society must, by law, have a Secretary (The ‘Society Secretary’). The Secretary of DHST must be a member of the Trust. The Secretary is appointed by the Board.

It is the Secretary’s role to monitor the Trust’s affairs and ensure that matters are dealt with in accordance with the Rules, legislation, Supporters Direct policies, additional DHST policies, good practice and to the benefit of the Members. The Secretary protects the members’ interests and ensures that the constitution is followed and that the organisation is functioning properly. The Secretary must be able to attend all Society Board meetings (currently monthly).

You will need to be able to manage the work to a high standard, be well organised, reliable and conscientious together with abilities to communicate and collaborate with other Trust members. You should also be capable of being able to change or improve the workings of the Trust Board. Knowledge of the work of the Trust, together with its aims and objectives would be of benefit. Training for some aspects of the role will be available from time to time from Supporters Direct.

The work of DHST has expanded over the last few years. The Trust works closely with Dulwich Hamlet Football Club (particularly the Football Committee), Hadley Property Group (owners of Champion Hill), Supporters Direct, other Supporters’ Trusts and a large number of community organisations. The role of DHST Secretary offers an opportunity to be involved with the Trust at an exciting time for all at Champion Hill. For an informal conversation about the position please contact info@dhst.org.uk.

To apply, please send a statement (of no more than 600 words) as to why you are interested in the position, and how you meet the personal qualities and skills required in the job description. Applications should be sent to info@dhst.org.uk no later than Sunday 1 May. All candidates must be a member of the Trust, or join the Trust by 1 May.

If there is more than one application, then the current Trust Secretary will invite a small group, including at least one current Board member and one Trust member, to review the applications. This group will decide whether to appoint on the basis of the written statement, or to interview candidates. If you are a Trust member and wish to volunteer to review applications, then please do also get in contact.
