Non-League Day Supports Prostate Cancer UK

11th Oct 2019

Non-League Day was launched in 2010 as an event to give non-league clubs in the English National League System a chance to promote themselves during an international break when Premier League and EFL Championship clubs have the weekend off.

This year Prostate Cancer UK is once again the official charity partner of Non-League Day and non-league clubs across the country will be fundraising and raising awareness at games this weekend.

This will be no exception at Champion Hill tomorrow in our National League South game against Weymouth, when a collection will take place for Prostate Cancer UK alongside “DHFC Says No to Serious Youth Violence”. The Trust will continue to raise awareness through-out this month, starting with changing our logo to the colours of Prostate Cancer UK.

Kick off is at 15:00 and tickets can be bought in advance online priced £12 adults, £5 concessions with under 13’s free.

In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases with age. The risk is even higher for black men and men with family history of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer can develop when cells in the prostate start to grow in an uncontrolled way.

Some prostate cancer grows too slowly to cause any problems or affect how long you live. Because of this, many men with prostate cancer will never need any treatment.

But some prostate cancer grows quickly and is more likely to spread. This is more likely to cause problems and needs treatment to stop it spreading.

If you have any of the above risk factors or if you have any symptoms, speak to your GP. They can talk to you about your risk, and about the tests that are used to diagnose prostate cancer. You can also get in touch with Prostate Cancer UK’s Specialist Nurses, who can help you understand your individual risk of prostate cancer.
