Programme Notes v Chippenham

27th Nov 2019

Welcome to today’s FA Trophy game against fellow National South club Chippenham Town. Having been knocked out of the London Senior Cup on Tuesday night against Wingate and Finchley, this final opportunity for the team to have another cup run this season.

Who can forget the great Trophy cup run we had several years ago when we took Macclesfield Town, who are sadly going through a number of off-field issues, to a replay in the quarter-finals.

It was great to recently find out that the football club had been nominated in the Football Supporters’ Association’s (FSA) annual awards for the Nationals Game Community Award

This is the second year running that the FSA have been running this award that highlights the variety of community outreach work undertaken by non-league clubs over the country. On the shortlist, we are joined by other clubs who have been recognised as making a positive impact in their respective communities.

The FSA, who the Supporters’ Trust is a current member of is a national, democratic, representative body for football supporters in England and Wales.

They are seen as leading advocates for supporter ownership, better fan engagement, diversity and much, much more

Most of the community outreach work carried out at the club is conducted by fans who volunteered their time.

Volunteers are such an essential part of the operation of this club, we are always looking for fresh blood, new ideas and help from supporters. So if you (or someone you know) can help, please get in touch.

We are currently looking for Trust members to act as a support to Board members running the Mega-Container on match days and to offer support with other activities, such as the recent warm coat collection. If you would like or are consider volunteering for the Trust and / or the football club, please do get in touch with us by either popping into the Mega-container on home match days or emailing us at info@dhst.org.uk.

In addition, this season there is a need of support, not only the men’s home fixtures, but also for our women’s team games on Sunday afternoons.

We are also hoping, with your help, to run some new community initiatives focused on the elderly, isolated and those living with dementia.

The football club and Trust recently collected coats for Wrap Up London (an organisation that works with local charities and community groups to assist the homeless). The coats then got redistributed to local charities and community groups who directly offer support to people who are homeless, refugees, older people and others facing crisis. Further information on how you can still donate can be found on their website: https://wrapuplondon.org.uk

Finally, with only a handful of supporters’ indicating that they wished to travel by coach to the Oxford City game at the end of the month, we have had to make the decision not to run a coach to that game. Our next planned coach will be Weymouth, in early January and more information will be published shortly.

Enjoy the game
