Programme Notes v Welling United

25th Feb 2020

Welcome to Champion Hill for the league fixture against fellow South London club Welling United.

Rainbow Scarves

For the third year running the Supporters’ Trust have produced a limited edition Dulwich Hamlet Rainbow scarf to celebrate LGBT History Month. Alongside the scarves we have produced beanies and trucker caps that feature the club crest in the colours of the LGBT+ Rainbow Flag.

The scarves are priced £10, with beanies £10 and Truckers £12. A percentage of the profits from the scarf sale are being be split and donated to Football v Homophobia (FvH) and AKT (Albert Kennedy Trust). In addition, Club rainbow crest button pins (50 pence each) and Rainbow laces in stock. Only £3 per pair with all profits donated to Stonewall.

These items went on sale when Chelmsford City visited Champion Hill at the begging of the month. On the day the game was attended by Brian Stokes from FvH and at HT he accepted a cheque for £600 for this organisation, which was the Trust’s donation from the sale of the rainbow scarves.

FvH was originally conceived and launched by the Justin Campaign in 2010 to raise awareness of homophobia, that was prevalent in both grassroots and professional football. The Trust and football club have been supporting them for many years and it was great to meet Brian on the day.

We were due to welcome representatives from AKT at last Sunday’s women team fixture that sadly got postponed due to bad weather. AKT formed in Manchester in 1989 to offer support to LGBT+ young people facing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. It now has additional offices in London and Newcastle that also offers support in finding safe homes in addition to support with things like employment, education and training. We hope to invite them to the re-scheduled fixture later in the year and we have also donated £600 to this organisation.

Coach Travel

We hope to be running a supporters coach to the fixture at Bath City next Saturday (22 February) and a number of people have already booked their places on the coach. The proposed coach will leave Champion Hill at 10.30am costing £19 for adults, £14 concessions. Booking can be made at the Mega-contianer shop at today’s game or online at DHFCshop.co.uk
