The Mega-Container has landed at Champion Hill

25th Nov 2015

The Supporters’ Trust took delivery of the replacement Mega Shed this morning – a shipping container, which is to be converted to give us more space and more storage room as we have outgrown the Mega Shed.

Arriving around 11am, the container was picked up by crane from the back of a flatbed truck and swung over the wall and placed in its new home adjacent to the blue gates.

Our container’s last sea faring job with the Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line saw her loaded onto a container ship in Jebel Ali, a port 22 miles south west of Dubai on the 22nd September 2015. She arrived at the Port of London on October 26th 2015 and from there on she was transported to a depot in Dartford.

Early this morning she was back on the road again and landed at Champion Hill to begin her new life.

Over the coming weeks work will commence on converting her into a shop. This will involve installing new linings to the floor, walls and ceilings, a window and electrical works. We also plan to paint the exterior – in pink and blue of course!

We’re extremely grateful to the owners of the ground, Hadley Property Group and the Football Club, who have agreed to fund half the cost of the container and its conversion by foregoing their share of profits from merchandise sales until these costs are recovered and also to the supporters who have agreed to donate their time or money so far. We could still do with assistance from supporters in a number of areas outlined below:

  • By donating materials such as timber or paint.
  • By donating your trade skills and time – we could really do with a fully qualified electrician and carpenter. Note: If you don’t think you have any particular skills but would still like to help then you’re still than welcome!

If you think you can help with any of the items above then please email us at info@dhst.org.uk or speak to any of the Trust Board members.
