Our Mega-Container Shop Turns 5 Today !!!

8th Apr 2021

Today marks the 5th birthday of the Trust's Mega-container club shop also known as the pink and blue shipping container shop at the Carwash end of Champion Hill stadium. The Mega-container was officially opened by the Club's Life President (then Club Chairman), Jack Payne and Duncan Hart (representing the Trust Board) on Saturday 8th April 2016.

As some of you may have witnessed in trying to purchase items at the previous club shop, the Mega-shed was not ideal and the truth is, we’d simply outgrown it.

The Mega-shed had served the Trust well in previous years but due to increasing attendances and demand for a broader range of merchandise - opening the Mega-Container gave us the opportunity to improve our matchday service and, with the additional shop space and storage, allowed the expansion from the small range, we previously sold from the shed to what we offer today.

The Mega-shed which still can be seen in the ground and now serves as storage for old match programmes, fan banners and an assortment of drums!

With thanks to fellow fans, we arranged a variety of fundraising events, including a Christmas party (remember them?) to raise money to purchase a shipping container, and we also received generous donations from fans.

Once the container was purchased, the project was a labour of love by our then board member, Alex Crane, who managed the project and recruited a small team of volunteers who donated their time and Alex asked local businesses to help financially or by donating materials to help with the project to convert the shipping container to our new club shop.

The shipping container arrived with its own logbook listing all the journeys it made around the world. Whilst we all thought its final journey would be to South London and East Dulwich to be precise, it did join us for a short time at our exiled home at Tooting and Mitcham’s ground for the 2018-2019 season. Thankfully its stay was short and like the club, it soon returned home to its original spot at Champion Hill.

Whilst the shop remains closed due to no football matches, you still have the opportunity to buy all your pink and blue merchandise via our online shop and we look forward to welcoming fans to the shop once crowds are allowed back at Champion Hill.
