Sadly, the Supporters’ Trust have been informed that Farouk Menia, Coach of Dulwich Hamlet FC women’s team, has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The Supporters’ Trust sends our collective condolences to his family and two children.

We both first met Farouk last season when the team (under their original club title AFC Phoenix) played their final league game of the season at Champion Hill. I don’t think it’s a secret that this occasion was the prequel to the club shortly becoming fully part of the Dulwich Hamlet family.

Many exciting conversations were had with players after the game, but one common theme came through, the love and respect they all had for Farouk. He was more than just their coach, collectively he was their best friend.

That day the team presented him with a Hamlet scarf. With that big smile of his on his face, he put it straight on and it remained around his neck until he left the club that evening. Acknowledgement that the collective decision to become part of our club was the right one.
